A VR serious game for Autostrade per l’Italia that trains users on an emergency lane narrowing on the motorway, step by step.
The challenge
The brief was a VR serious game to train users on an emergency lane narrowing on the motorway: a procedure with precise phases, signage and safety rules. It had to feel realistic enough to be a credible rehearsal, while running smoothly on a standalone VR headset.
The approach
I worked on both the technical and the artistic side. I created the cinematic cutscenes in Unity Timeline, with multiple animation layers, Animator components and C# phase-based logic, and programmed one of the interactive VR levels with OpenXR: grab interactions, sockets, object placement and the overall interaction flow.
On the visual side I contributed to 3D modelling, terrain modelling, animation, texturing and look development, and optimized the scenes so the experience could hold a stable frame rate in VR with a coherent visual style.
The result
A complete VR training experience that guides users through every phase of the procedure, combining cinematic moments with hands-on interactions in a realistic motorway environment.
Breakdown
Art and code.
I worked on both sides of the project: the 3D world and its look, and the VR interactions that make the training hands-on.
